Community Fluoridation
Drinking fluoridated water keeps teeth strong and reduces cavities by about 25% in children and adults. By preventing cavities, community water fluoridation has been shown to save money for families.
A recent report showed that nine of the twelve community water systems in Harrison County were not optimally fluoridated. After careful review of the benefits of water fluoridation the Harrison County Board of Health, is urging communities to explore steps and resources to achieve optimal fluoride levels to prevent tooth decay among the residents of those communities.

Water fluoridation is a long-standing public health measure began nationally over 70 years ago and today is still the most cost-effective way to prevent dental cavities. Research shows that for every $1 invested in fluoridation there is an average of $38 savings in dental benefits. Fluoridation is a cost saving and preventive health measure for Harrison County residents, both adults and children.
Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation has grant money available to assist communities with the costs of fluoridation of public water supplies. Talk with your mayor/water superintendent to get your community on board!
